Energy Saving Power Supplies in Computers

With today’s demanding market for the latest computer technologies in both home and business personal computers, it’s not surprising to see how energy consumption for each household in the UK has increased by almost 10% since the beginning of 2003.

This may be down to every increasing use of personal computers in homes today, or more specifically, higher watted power supplies that are required to run ever demanding computer technology.

Generally speaking, power supplies in computers range from 400 to 600 watts for the standard computer. Whilst in more demanding and high tech systems, a power supply of 1000 watts or 1KW to 2KW is a common occurrence. Running a 1KW power supply is the equivalent almost to running 20 standard 60W light bulbs, quite a substantial requirement.

Therefore, if you’re looking to save in this area, look to either downgrade your system or purchase PSU’s with the Green Leaf symbol on them, as this signifies they are energy saving and more efficient.
