NEW YORK (AP) — Shares of a few top tools and appliances companies were down on the close of trading:

General Electric Co. fell $.16 or .8 percent, to $19.61.

Snap-On fell $.02 or percent, to $62.79.

Stanley Works fell $.82 or 1.1 percent, to $73.29.

Whirlpool Corp. fell $2.08 or 3.2 percent, to $62.80.
